BikeSafe receives BMW S1000RR sports motorcycle

The MPS Motorcycle Safety Team has been supplied with an S1000RR sports motorcycle by BMW, which will be used for the promotion of the BikeSafe London project.

BikeSafe is a police-led motorcycle project, which in London is run in partnership with Transport for London. It is run by police forces throughout the UK to reduce the number of bikers being hurt on the roads and to improve skills, knowledge and hazard awareness. It also encourages riders to continue to develop and improve their skills, knowledge and awareness throughout their riding years.

The project runs workshops which examine the main riding hazards that motorcycle riders face and delivers theory presentations and observed rides to identify riders’ strengths and weaknesses. It also provides advice on where to go next to get more from their biking.

Having benefitted from a BikeSafe workshop or ride out, the next step that riders are encouraged to take is post-test motorcycle training from either the Institute of Advanced Motorists, Royal Society for Prevention of Accidents or the Enhanced Rider Scheme.

Chief Inspector Paul Hand from the MPS Roads and Transport Policing Command said:
“We are grateful to BMW Park Lane for supplying Bikesafe London with this S1000RR sports bike which represents the very latest advances in performance and safety. A bike like this will generate a huge amount of interest wherever it goes and will help us to raise the profile of Bikesafe and engage with a wider range of riders. I would encourage anyone who hasn't tried a course to join us by booking up at www.bikesafe-london.co.uk and come and see the 'RR' in action.”

BikeSafe London is currently running a promotion for riders aged 25 or under, to pay a fee of only £10 for the day. Mention that you are under 25 years old when you book to take advantage of this offer.
